Job description

We invite applicants for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher in the project Modeling and Supporting Web Search and Navigation by Older Adults. This project is financed by NWO and carried out in collaboration with the University of Toulouse and the University of Illinois.
Aims of the project are to develop a computational cognitive model of information seeking taking into account differences related to aging, and create tools to support older people while seeking information on the Web.

The concrete tasks of the Postdoc at Utrecht University will consist of:
• contribute to the theoretical and modeling developments
• conduct empirical studies to test the model predictions
• design and evaluate navigation support tool(s)
• publish in high-quality scientific journals and present results on international conferences
• collaborate with the partners in Toulouse and Illinois

Qualifications

• A PhD degree in Computer Science on the domain of Information Retrieval with interest in cognitive modeling and empirical verification, a degree in Cognitive Science with proven interest in Information Retrieval, or similar relevant PhD degrees.
• An excellent publication record, including papers in high-impact journals and conference proceedings
• Skills on the area of information retrieval techniques (such as latent semantic analysis)
• Knowledge of navigation and search models like SNIF-ACT and CoLiDeS is desirable
• Programming skills such as Python or Java.

Offer

Conditions of employment: The candidate is offered a position for three years. The position is full-time, but part-time (80%) employment is possible. The gross salary depends on qualifications and experience and ranges  between € 2,919 and € 3,831 per month (salary scale 10, of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities). The salary is supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8,3% per year. In addition we offer: a pension scheme, a partially paid parental leave, flexible employment conditions. Conditions are based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities.
The research group will provide the candidate with necessary support on all aspects of the project.

The division Interaction Technology researches new techniques for engaging interaction between users and various forms of media, such as images, movies, sounds, music, virtual characters, as well as augmented and completely virtual worlds. For this, various modalities, such as movement, touch, sound, brain signals, and other forms of bio-signals are investigated. We focus on the design, development, analysis and evaluation of new concepts, models and algorithms for innovative interaction. We take human aspects such as validation, efficiency, efficacy, communication, perception, cognition and emotion into account.
