We invite all graduate students of linguistics and related fields to participate in the 2015 LOT Winter School in Amsterdam, organized by the Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication (University of Amsterdam).
LOT organizes and coordinates the training of graduate students in linguistics. Each year, LOT organizes a winter school in January and a summer school in June/July. The next LOT Winter School will take place January 12-23 2015, and will be hosted by the Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication (ACLC) of the University of Amsterdam.
There are 18 courses on a wide variety of linguistic topics taught by researchers from all over the world, ranging from introductions to a particular subfield to highly specialized courses. The course list include a course on doing linguisitic research using treebank corpora by Gertjan van Noord, and a course on doing linguistic research using the CLARIN-infrastructure by Jan Odijk and others. In addition, there are 2 Research Discussion Groups in which the focus will be on the students? own work. The schedule of courses and their teachers can be found on our website: http://www.lotschool.nl/files/
The courses are open to PhD students and second year Research Master students who are affiliated with one of the LOT institutes, and also to PhD students and postdocs from other research institutes in the world. Participants are encouraged to present their work during the weekly poster session. They may present a poster with original work, try-out their poster for an upcoming conference, or present a poster from a previous conference. The LOT schools are international events, so the courses will be taught in English.
Registration for the school will be open until December 1st, 2014. The school will be located in the P. C. Hoofthuis in the Amsterdam city center, and students will be accommodated in the nearby Nova Hotel. Other practical information can be found on our website: http://www.lotschool.nl/files/
